Gratitude Attitude

I know the title of this post is probably overused in blogland. It's fairly generic, but I think always relevant.

Life lately has been full of transition, and I didn't handle it all as gracefully as I would have liked. Basically we've both left our jobs, moved back to our hometown and are now trying to find something we're passionate about to fill our days. It's not that it's hard to find something to be passionate about, it's just finding something we're passionate about that's also hiring and finding an answer for the "So what about jobs?" question that is very common at the moment.

Needless to say there is justification for a bit of stress in our lives right now, BUT... I was getting a bit out of hand. I was mopey and a yo-yo of emotions for a few days, to the point I was exhausting myself. It's so easy to fall into that cycle of whiny complaints, which is fine for an hour or two, or even a day but it was getting to be too much!

That's when I decided to start journalling again. I have always kept a journal, except this year just as things got a bit stressful I abandoned it altogether. Not my smartest move. I have an awesome "Thought A Day: A 5 Year Journal" that gives about 4 lines a day to write and a few days ago I cracked it open for the first time since January. I've had the book since 2012 and never skipped more than a day at a time until this year.

I originally filled it with random activities or memories from each day, where we went, who we saw, what we ate. Since re-starting I've been focusing on recording what I'm thankful for each day. It's still very much an account of my day-to-day life, but with that **drumroll** gratitude attitude! It was a tiny change and yet it has helped bring me back to my usual self.

Taking a minute before bed to just think about what I'm grateful for each day makes it hard to stay in that mopey place (not impossible, but harder)! If you aren't currently keeping a record of things your thankful for I recommend it- or if journalling isn't your thing just take a minute and think about it!

I'd love to hear what you're most grateful for- maybe we can get some kind of community post celebrating all the wonderful things going?? I'm open to ideas!

Keep Smiling :)

  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again, to anyone who needs to hear....my daily act of writing in my gratitude is, I'm sure, the only thing that pulled me through the trauma of the last few years.....so pleased to hear you've reclaimed its power! Have you seen this video: http://www.marieforleo.com/2014/11/powerful-gratitude-practice/ (I've been doing this for a while, at night (ew, sounds kinda gross)....and it's really helped me...).....SO GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK!!!!!!
