Quest for Happiness [Day 12]

Over the past 11 days in this newly minted "Quest for Happiness" (quotations make it important!) I've focused on specific things, like watching TV and going for walks that make me happy. Today I want to shift my focus a little.

I'm beginning to fear I'm veering back down the road of this being more of an online journal than a blog about anything specific. I like writing everyday but I'm sure what I had for breakfast isn't that fascinating so I'll try and avoid blogs like that.

Today I laid on the couch all day, feeling slightly sick and hugely lazy. As a result I also don't have any monumental accomplishments to share off my "Quest for Happiness" list. Instead I'm going to share a list of three things I'm grateful for that I'm sure account for much of my happiness.

Disclaimer: I like making lists but I don't like ranking things as more/less important so consider the following three things to be of equal importance.

  • My Health: I didn't share this last week but I had some blood work done for school and when my Doctor got the results he called me into his office. I had to wait two days before I could get in to see him and the suspense was awful. My mind raced with possibilities so I heaved a giant sigh of relief when he told me I needed to take more vitamins. My health is something I usually take for granted but it really is one of our most precious gifts.
  • My Family: I come from a close and extremely supportive family. I am thankful everyday that I have them in my life and that we have been able to stay so connected despite the distance.

  • My Friends: Moving to a new city has made me all the more aware of the great friendships I left behind and has motivated me to continue to nurture them until we move back to the land of lobster and ocean air. I wasn't always the best friend to have and I am grateful to everyone who stuck by me through my "moody years." Moving has allowed me to expand my horizons and I am also grateful for the new friends I've made and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow over the next few years
Unrelated, but needed to be shared :)
Taking stock of my happiness every day this month and having time to really think about what it means to be happy and what makes me happy has opened my eyes. I have a wonderful life and a great support system. I think this "Quest for Happiness" is making it easier to appreciate the awesome things in life that sometimes are overlooked.

Tonight's blog has gotten very deep so I am going to wrap it up before you fall asleep (see what I did there with the rhyming??). I'd love to hear what you think of the quest so far, what makes you happy or what other crazy shinannigans you think I should give a try!

Keep Smiling :)

P.S. Happy Birthday Dad!

  2. Great post Kimberley, keep them coming. I enjoyed this one, especially the little p.s. at the end. LOL. It's good to take stock once and awhile and remember all that we have to be grateful for...great idea.
