Ahoy Matey! Ideas On Fashion

Unrelated to this post, but related to the title, I have a pirate joke for you that one of my kinders taught me last year.

Q: "What is a pirate's favourite letter?"

A: "You may think it be the 'RRRRRrrrrrrr' but it is the 'CCC.'"

Get it, C? Sea? Because pirates sail on the sea? Hilar.

Ok, this Blog-tember challenge is a tough one: "Pick a fashion trend you love and a fashion trend you hate. Win us over!"

Truth be told I am far from fashionable, I like skirts, t-shirts and cardigans and like things that are on sale ($10 or less makes me do a happy dance). I don't really understand fashion trends or follow the styles, so I would caution you against taking my advice on anything fashion related.

Ok, Love.

Anchors. Nautical Prints.

If it's got a seaside vibe I love it. Love it. I think it as something to do with my seaside upbringing. I would have a closet full of this stuff, if it wouldn't be a tad overkill to wear it all the time. Seriously though, how cute is that dress?

Ok, Hate... hmmmm.

I actually can't think of any trends I hate, any trends I haven't liked I eventually grew to at least accept. Crocs (love them), leggings as pants (double love), gladiator sandals (love them on Russell Crowe), maxi skirts (so lazy and comfy!).

Brave Love Blog

What are your fashion must-haves? Are you more decisive then me, do you actually have a trend that you hate?

Ten On Tuesday: In My Bag

I always love those posts where people share what they're carrying around every day. Jay finally cracked and bought me a Jessica Simpson bag for my birthday, I've been dreaming about one for two years. It was really quite ridiculous.

I'm glad I waited though, because this bag has two strap options (shoulder or cross body) and isn't too big so I can't carry too much at once. In case you're interested it's the Marina Crossbody, it also comes in tonne of other gorgeous colours, and the inside is leopard print!

Since I've got this gorgeous new bag, and had to relocate all my belongings into the new purse it seemed the perfect time to show y'all what I carry around every day.

[1] Forever 21 Anchor Sunglasses. Protect my eyes and feed my nautical obsessions.

[2] Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizer. Yes, that's a polar bear- I stock up at Christmas!

[3] Tums Freshers. We had these in our bathroom baskets at the wedding, they weren't used so I figured I should start carrying them around. Clever, I know.

[4] My beautiful new Target wallet. It's got the perfect number of pockets and that handy zipper keeps all my loose change from landing all over my purse!
[5] Advil, also left over from the wedding.

[6] EOS Lip Balm. I have blogged about my love for this many times, it's just so easy to find at the bottom of my purse! Plus, it smells delicious!

[7] Random mints and Mentos. They usually don't last very long, especially if we're in the car for any length of time.

[8] Tide To Go Pen. These little pens have saved a few of my favourite outfits, they're amazing!

[9] Burt's Bees Milk & Honey Body Lotion. Smells so good and keeps my hands from getting dried out.

[10] Bus Pass. Self-explanatory.

Not Pictured: My 3 year old Blackberry, house keys on a lanyard, random receipts I carry around for months and a pack of gum, my drop-proof camera and depending on the weather I usually have a rain coat or long sleeved shirt jammed in there too!

What treasures do you carry around every day? Do we have any in common?

Linking up with Alyssa since this list is a perfect 10! Happy Ten On Tuesday!

In Real Life...

"In real life..." is something my kids at work say at least a dozen times daily. We are constantly determining if things are happening "in real life." My co-workers and I tend to get a chuckle at this, since there isn't much of an alternative to things happening "in real life." To get them thinking about it, sometimes I ask what happens if it isn't "in real life" but mostly that just confuses everything!

Where is this going?

Glad you asked!

Because I hear this phrase so many times a week, I've started thinking it myself every now and again. It seemed like a perfectly ridiculous way to phrase the stories of our weekend.

In real life.. I got a gorgeous parka for $50 (I'm going to blog about this for weeks to come, it's love). It's bright blue, has lots of pockets, fake fur, is toasty warm and is just everything on my wish list, and didn't come with the $500 Canada Goose Jacket price tag.

The photo quality isn't great, but I was so excited about my new jacket photo shoot I skipped across the driveway and wiped out hard. This was about 3 minutes after Jay had wiped out into a puddle and I laughed (a lot), so only fair he would photograph it.

In real life.. on the same shopping trip I scored a great deal on jeans from the gap and got this adorable anchor print t-shirt from Old Navy. I'm a little late to the party, but I am all over this nautical theme. All those years living by the ocean have given me a soft spot for all things ocean-y (so not a word).
Seriously, how cute is this?  The anchors are the same blue as my new coat.
Have I told you about my new coat yet? I'm trying not to make a big deal
about it, so I've been keeping it pretty quiet.

In real life.. a self-serve fro-yo shop finally opened close to our house. By close I mean less than an hour walking distance. This will not be good for my piggybank, but I am so stoked. Of course today we had to trek out to see if it was any good. It was. Root beer & cotton candy swirled fro-yo, amazeballs!

In real life.. we got at least 10cms of snow Saturday morning. Seriously. This is one of those facts I wish fit under whatever the alternative to "in real life" is. Friday was gorgeous, it felt like Spring was here and then bam! Snowstorm. Yuck.

In real life.. I re-read the second instalment in the Hunger Games trilogy in about 24 hours. Damn, those books are good.

In real life.. blogging crossed my mind over the weekend, but I really wanted to try and spend a little less time on the computer. Plus, wedding stuff took over my brain.

In real life.. weekends should have at least three day, but five would probably be the ideal number. How is a person supposed to feel rejuvenated after just two days??! Ridiculous!

Skirtember Version 2

So, as I mentioned last week Kristin's Knook and Scattered Seashells are hosting a link-up for the month of September, challenging us to wear skirts as much as possible.

The weather was all over the place last week. It was freezing cold Monday/Tuesday and then it warmed up, so by Friday it was like summer again. My skirt wearing suffered as I didn't want to freeze!

One other note, I realize looking at these pictures it looks like I essentially wore the same outfit twice in the last week, but I swear they are entirely different pieces of clothing! I had to cut my face out of the centre picture, because pre-straightening my hair was a horrible mess!

Left ~ Sweater/T-Shirt:Wal-Mart //Skirt: Old Navy//Tights: Garage
Centre ~ T-Shirt: Old Navy //Skirt: Wal-Mart
Right ~ Dress: Wal-Mart//Tank Top: Old Navy//Sweater: Gap//Tights: Garage//Boots: GoJane

Skirtember Challenge

So there is a fabulous link-up this month, hosted by Kristin's kNook and Scattered Seashells. The challenge is to wear a skirt every day (or as often as possible) in September. It's perfect timing because with the changes at work, I'm now trying to dress a little fancier everyday, so lots of skirts.

Here are a few of my fancy skirt numbers from the past couple weeks, hopefully I'll have something new for you next week.

Top Left: Sweater-H&M, T-Shirt-Old Navy, Skirt-Wal-Mart
Bottom Left: Top & Dress-H&M, Tights-Garage
Right: Sweater-GAP, Skirt-Old Navy, Shoes-Wal-Mart
Top Left (Ignore bad hair, it was 40C that day!): Top-Bootlegger, Dress- H&M, Tights- Garage
Bottom Left: Sweater-Wal-Mart, Skirt-Banana Republic
Right: Not technically a skirt picture, I swapped the Banana Republic skirt for the pink pants at the last minute; T-Shirt, Sweater, Shoes: Wal-Mart, Pants-GAP

It was a little weird putting together a whole post of pictures of me and what I wore, but now that I've discovered this collage making business I am loving life! This week I'm going to try and rock some boots with my skirts, especially if it's as cold as last week. If you've been wearing skirts you should definitely link up!

Keep Smiling :)
