Two Years In O-Town!

So, as of tomorrow afternoon we have been living in Ottawa for exactly two years. It has been an exciting, emotional, stressful and wonderful adventure. One that I have appreciated far more than I anticipated when we started driving here in the early morning hours of August 30, 2011

The past two years have been filled with challenges and accomplishments. It was the first time Jay & I actually shared an apartment, though thanks to tolerant roomies we had more or less been living together before. The four months between September & December also marked the longest period of time I had been away from home. Luckily letters, skype dates and texting made home feel a little closer.

Our first year in Ottawa was an emotional one (for me particularly!), the homesickness sometimes took hold. Luckily we've made some fantastic friends that have made a huge difference, it is great to have people nearby who've got your back. We've also finally found jobs that we enjoy, and are working toward our careers which has lessened the stress immensely.

We have made some wonderful memories during our time here. SENS games, apple picking, dinners with friends, fro-yo dates, day trips to Kingston, skating on the canal, hiking in Gatineau Park, Blues Fest, Boldt Castle, and so many more. We became engaged, celebrated a quarter century of life, got promoted (Jay), went back to school and graduated (Me), and will soon be celebrating five years together. This city will always have a piece of my heart.

Ottawa is a beautiful city, of all the places we could have ended up I am thankful everyday we wound up here. There is always something going on, plus I am still a total sucker for Parliament Hill. The fact you can just go relax on the grass there whenever you want amazes me!

The past two years have flown by we've come to love this city, we really gained our independence here. That being said hopefully by this time 2015 I'll be writing this with an ocean view!

To all of you that have supported us on this adventure, thank you (oh, and we love you)! It makes a huge difference knowing you are there to catch us if we fall.

Jay did not want to be photographed this evening, even
when I said "It's for the fans." Sorry guys.
Keep Smiling :)

  1. Seeing as I and my family have just made a rather significant move ourselves, I got a lot out of this. It's nice knowing that after two years you are still glad you made the decision you did!
