I Like The Quiet

Today's Challenge: "Let's talk personality types. Introverted? Extroverted? Unsure-troverted? ;) If you know your Myers-Briggs type, tell us about it! If not, you can take this similar test and share your results."

My dear husband, reading over my shoulder, did not have nice things to say about the Myers-Briggs test (basically you can rig the test to get the answer you want), but he and grumpy cat could easily be besties most days.
I didn't take a test, because I feel like I have a pretty good idea where I fit. It's of course not an easy answer, but would you expect any less from me? I think it's about a 60/40 split, where I'm about 60% Introverted but with the right motivation or company I think about 40% of the time I veer into Extrovert territory.

A little disclaimer, I am generalizing behaviours that fall under both of the below categories. I did a brief bit of internet research on each type and combined that with my own personal experiences.

Reasons I'm An Introvert

I avoid big social events, and prefer staying at home, but when I actually go out I always have a good time.

I find small talk or polite conversation with strangers uncomfortable, it takes me a LONG time to open up. Like we could hang out half a dozen times before I really connect with you, but then it will be a serious connection.
Once you've made it into my social circle, you're in and I will talk A LOT.  The two in the photo above can attest to this, as I write Jay (whose still over my shoulder) said "I talk A LOT A LOT A LOT." (This was the best photo I could find on short notice, I'll try harder I promise).
I love quiet time. A day at home curled up with a book can tackle just about any or all stress in my life and give me the boost I need.

I avoid being the centre of attention, I don't want to be a star athlete or singled out during a show. I hate the idea of everyone watching me, and the pressure that comes with that.

I am constantly thinking and overthinking my next move and mentally prepare for nearly every conversation I have. No wonder introverts need all the re-charging time.

I love writing and can express myself in writing much more eloquently than I ever could in conversation.

Reasons I'm An Extrovert (Sometimes)

I am easily excited, and once I'm excited I get loud and crazy. I reach a level of excitement where I don't realize or care if I've become the centre of attention.

Take me to watch a sporting event and I will go wild! Doesn't matter the team or sport!
(Unrelated, my hair is SO long in this photo)
I am less inclined to want to discuss philosophy or deep thought-provoking topics based on books or movies, at least on a regular basis (This was high on the list of Introvert Qualities, though I'd kind of think anyone could like/not like this).

If I know you, or feel even remotely comfortable around you I will chat your ear off. In social gatherings, once I get excited I become so talkative.

I need to talk about a problem before I can find a solution, although I will quietly ponder as well, I need to vocalize problems or concerns in order to come up with a solution. Jay probably spends about 30 hours a week listening to these "problems."

Brave Love Blog

Where do you fall on the Introvert/Extrovert scale?  Do you find yourself somewhere in the middle or falling further to one side?

Keep Smiling :)

  1. Hia, have had lots of meetings so couldn't pop by....I have a hunch you'd be an INFJ (like a lot of us Blog-tember-ers!)

  2. I'm an ISTJ, definitely an introvert. I like my quiet and spending time at home.
