Kindness Counts... Are You Ready?

A few weeks ago I suggested that (at least to start) each Friday in October I would host a weekly link-up to share our big and little acts of kindness each week, and to hopefully inspire more.

I promised ideas and I'm not one to disappoint, but I know my limits. I haven't thought of every idea and I am happy to add yours to the list, or to post a second list of all of your great ideas!

Donate to charity, $2, $5, $10, $100 whatever you've got
Buy a coffee or donut for a friend or co-worker
Say thank you, to anyone! The more unexpected the better.
Send a friend a card in the mail (Sarah had a great idea for this a few months ago!)
Or, send them a care package filled with their favourite things!
Hand make a gift for a friend (or stranger).
Bake a treat for someone
Hold the door
Offer your seat on the bus
Bring the bus driver a magazine or newspaper
Donate old books and movies to a youth centre
Find a family in need to sponsor
Donate to the food bank
Volunteer with the food bank
Give old furniture to a family that needs it (you can often find someone on kijiji or facebook)
Use a blogpost to raise awareness for a cause you care about
Give old clothes to Dress For Success
Donate your Wedding Dress, Prom Dress or Bridesmaid Dresses
Donate old books to a Seniors Residence, Hospital Library, School Book Sale
Look into Adopt-A-Grandparent programs
Volunteer to serve water at a charity run
Clean up litter in your neighbourhood
Offer to carry something for a neighbour
Buy shoes or boots for someone who needs them
Buy food for someone living on the street
Knit mittens and hats for those who need them
Cheer up a friend by taking them flowers or showing up with their favourite movie
Thank a firefighter, police officer or paramedic
Thank your child's teacher
Send a note in your child/spouse/sibling/parents lunch
Make your spouse/roommate/parents lunch
Cook dinner for friends who've been busy with work, a new baby, whatever, lighten their load
Send a care package to soldiers
Send thank you cards to soldiers recently returned from a tour
Praise good customer service (let the boss know about someone's great wife!)
Leave a generous tip

Many of these ideas could be done for a friend or for a total stranger. You could easily bake a double batch of cookies and take half to a friend and half to a Seniors Residence or half to nurses at the hospital or to the fire station. The possibilities are actually endless.

If you have children or if you're a teacher involve your children or students in a project. Or let them come up with their own projects!

If you have ideas that should be on this list please email me or leave them in the comments. Don't forget to come back next Friday to link up!

Keep Smiling :)
