When I Grow Up...

Before I jump into today's challenge I just wanted to say hey. What is up blog world? I love the prompts but I feel like my posts are missing the connection that comes from the randomness of blogging- the weird stories about the weekend or a random quote or joke or hilarious internet video. I'm going to keep working to find a balance. In the mean time, how the heck are you? Seriously.

I've got a story, so last weekend we went camping. In just over 48 hours the following happened:

*A squirrel was dropping acorns from a tree, being nosy I looked up to see where it was coming from and got smacked by an acorn on the bridge of my nose- it bruised. This happened in real life, I swear, there were even witnesses.

*We went canoeing, Jay was in the back so he was able to stretch out a bit when we took a break, I  said "I want to do that," launched myself backwards, slipped off my seat, hit my head on the cross bar thingy (no idea what it's actually called) and almost tipped the canoe. ALMOST.

*Then, are you ready for this. You can't handle this story. Seriously.
Ok, you think you're ready? So, we went hiking, the mosquitoes were awful. About 3/4 of the way through I decided I needed to re-apply my chemical filled bug spray, Jay sprays me and then I say "Ok, I'll do you, ready?" and proceed to spray it point blank into my eyeballs. IT BURNED. And then it burned some more. Jay wouldn't photograph me, he said he was too embarrassed.

The lesson here, never go camping with me. You'll probably get eaten by a bear.

Today's Blog-tember Challenge is "When I grow up I want to be...." Feel free to answer as your 5-year-old self or as of now."

When I was 5 I wanted to be a ballerina. I have no grace, balance, or patience so clearly that was never meant to be.

A little younger than 5 here, maybe I wanted to be a professional
dandelion sniffer? Or a purse model?

When I was 10, I wanted to be an NBA Player for the Toronto Raptors. I had plans to plead with the league to let girls play (I was a little unclear on the concept of the WNBA at the time). I didn't actually like getting passed the ball though so that was another dream that eventually faded.

Shortly after I decided that I wanted to be a teacher and stayed committed to that idea for years. I filled out the applications for teacher's college but eventually decided that I would be better off going a different route.

I also *briefly* considered becoming a Social Worker but the program I enrolled in was really not a good fit for me.

Finally I became an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and found my passion. Teaching kindergarten. Will this be my passion forever? Likely not, but right now it's a great choice.

That's the trouble with "growing up" you never really finish. I'm older and wiser than I was at 5, but by the time I'm 40 (gasp) I imagine my goals and choices might look a little differently.

Brave Love Blog

Have you found what you want to be when you "grow up?" How did you know?

Keep Smiling :)

  1. Ah, what to be when you grow up. I used to say when I was little that I wanted to be a doctor or a hair cutting person. My mom said it was always good to have a back up haha!

  2. Love your post! You had me spitting my tea out in fits of giggles at your camping stories! Love your 'purse model' photo - too cute! And, hey, I'm 40...my world hasn't ended but, yep, I'm still growing up! A little more each day!

  3. I've actually wanted to be an interior designer since I was in 4th grade. Before that I wanted to be a teacher. The interior designer profession was pretty long lasting, and now I am one!

  4. I remember all those things you wanted to be. Truth be told the ballerina idea had me worried for quite awhile, not long after that you wanted roller skates...double worried.
Obviously some protective equipment would be good for you while camping. Perhaps a helmet.

  6. I completely agree on the "you never really finish" growing up idea. Dreams change and grow with time. It's fun though, to look back at your life and see what you wanted to be and what you ended up doing!
