Sunday Smiles [delayed] 03.03.2014

So, I'm a day late in posting this week, and about two weeks behind in posting regularly. I was going to skip this post again this week, but then I saw the most amazing video and couldn't ignore it.

A woman who had waved to high school students, three times a day, for years was brought to the school on Valentine's Day and given a beautiful surprise. Seeing high school students, whom have been painted as entirely self-absorbed, doing such a kind thing made me so happy.

Less an act of kindness, but more a hilarious spectacle, are these videos by Bob Herzog a traffic reporter. A few years back he began having "Dance Party Fridays" and the videos are amazing. Sometimes he just dances, other times he completely reworks songs, including Wrecking Ball. Check out this compilation of some of the best from 2013.

This story starts off sad, a mother with Multiple Sclerosis struggling to find someone to care for her children as she is no longer physically able. The blog she created was a plea for help, and in days she received hundreds of replies and has even begun meeting with prospective families. It has been beautiful to see how many people are willing to help. The blog is frequently being updated to keep supporters in the loop and I hope soon we will find out these beautiful children will have a safe place to grow up, while still being near their mother. Check out their story here.

On a more personal note, my kiddos managed to amaze me with their kindness, not once but twice in the last two weeks. First, they all made signs, cards and decorations for the school custodian as a thank you after he rescued some shoes and books from behind their cubbies. We took the decorations to him in his office and he said they had made his bad day much better! Then, a co-worker that covers my break each day had a birthday and the kids took charge again and made her a card and then organized to sing her a song. Literally, I just give them the paper and help with the spelling, they're leading these projects all on their own. Ok, that's my proud teacher moment for the day.

Keep Smiling :)
