Hello Patient Friends!
Sorry I have become a sparse blogster, and sorry also for the lack of vlogs (that's a video blog!)- my computer is less cooperative than I would like. I will make up for the lack of love sharing though I promise!
After I wrote last week Jay and I went to a super fabulous birthday celebration, and lets just say Jay celebrated hard. Sunday was not a good day for him (there is no photographic evidence though so these claims could be disputed!). The party was fun though it was nice to leave our apartment and spend time with people whose names are not Jay or Kim.
Work last week was much better, I'm starting to get the hang of it so I lessened the pressure on myself and voila I'm not a total hot mess anymore! Once I stopped being a basket case and started trusting my gut I had great success (at least in my opinion) compared to my first week. I also love getting to dress like a "grown-up". Yoga pants not being an option to wear to work is actually a refreshing change I feel so much classier. And I got these amazing cords last weekend at Smart Set- I'm almost certain they are "jeggings" marketed towards adults but they are brilliant and I love them. They are especially lovely since winter has decided to materialize here in Ottawa, it's been freezing cold (with rain sometimes) the past 4 days.
We've become frequent library visitors, I've read more than a book a week pretty much since we've moved. I just finished The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis and it was spectacular. I don't usually like politics but it was absolutely fascinating and I loved it. I must withhold some thoughts on it for my upcoming book club meeting though so if you want to know more about it's fabulousness you'll have to read it yourself!
I also read the book Swimming Pool Sunday by Madeline Wickham (aka Sophie Kinsella writer of the Shopaholic books) it was quite good but greatly different from her usually books I returned the rest of the Madeline Wickham books I had taken out from the library because I don't dig their style (and one was about a ghost and was scary!). I'm reading the Time Traveler's Wife now, and I have heard fabulous things about it and so far it is living up to all those comments. My only complaint is that sometimes it is very crude, I would prefer more delicate wording so my sensibilities would be less offended.

I am one step closer to being a member of the Sens Army! Jay and I have tickets to two upcoming Sens games I am so excited it's not even funny. Jay isn't quite as excited about this, he seems to think it's appropriate to stay loyal to Detroit even though we live in the land of the Senators but it's not my place to judge. He vetoed face painting for the games though, I'll keep trying to persuade him.
We are in the middle of an election here in Ontario land. The three candidates are all not appealing at all. It's mostly depressing when there isn't one person that seems like a good choice. The current Premier is a Liberal and seemed legit- he did a lot for childcare/education but apparently raises taxes on everything. The PC & NDP leaders vote together on many issues it seems and neither of them seem capable of leading the province. The advertisements say nothing just attack the other guys, and the pamphlets they put in our mailbox are equally as informative. I am not impressed, but I will march my butt down to the polling station and have my voice heard, I wish you could do more than mark a silly little "X", I'm thinking of attaching an essay to my ballot.
Onto the most exciting part of the weekend though...my first foray into baking in our new kitchen. I am making banana bread according to Wendy's recipe (although I altered it a little by adding chocolate chips!!!) I am trying to prepare myself to bake Jason's birthday cake from scratch next week so I need to hone my baking skills. I'm working on my confidence in creating masterpieces not from the kitchen of Betty Crocker.
Here are some photos of my Banana Bread baking experience! It looks and smells so good which is exciting! I made it through to the end without burning myself and then I attempted to lick a knife after it touched the pan and burned my lip. Epic fail. Update: The bread turned out perfectly it tastes as good as it looks!
Getting some use out of my fabulous apron from K-Fran! |
Rexy with the finished product, we had to stop him from climbing in the pan! |
We went for a stroll and found ourselves on a path near the Ottawa River to a place where an artist makes rock sculptures. We stayed there watching the geese and looking at the rocks. I'm sure this is fascinating to you :)
Keep Smiling :)
