"Nothing
great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
I am an enthusiastic person, I think that is a well known fact. Therefore is it really any surprise that this quote seems like a fitting choice for today's post.
I am enthusiastic and easily excitable. I sometimes try and hide my exuberance, and always end up feeling crummy later. It's hard being a grown up with the enthusiasm and silly nature of a 5 year old. {Sidenote: Babysitting has made me acutely aware of how childlike I am in my daily interactions with the world, it's not pretty!}
I try and tone down the enthusiasm in workplace settings particularly because I want people to think I'm competent. But eventually it becomes too difficult to hide my silliness and that is often when I start to enjoy things, and better yet, when I am able to connect with others. Going forward I am going to try to be more self assured, and true to myself in whatever new situations I may face.
I like this quote for two reasons. One it's from Ralph Waldo Emerson and he said a lot of great things. Two, it makes me feel as though being enthusiastic is a positive and something I should celebrate!
I realize I've used many big words for a Saturday morning post, I just read some Magic School Bus books so I'm in touch with my intellectual side more than usual.
I also realize that I am providing no context for where these quotes were originally said (because honestly I don't know). I am not interested in big debates about context, just in finding words that inspire me in the moment and sharing them and a few thoughts.
While I am enjoying using quotes to help focus my posts it makes posting on short notice more difficult so I think I am going to amend my original plan to do a quote blog every two days, to at least two quote blogs a week. This way I will be able to write more "regular" posts in between without feeling like I'm a complete scatter brain. I don't know how many of you read the original post detailing my plan, but wanted to share the changes.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday afternoon, embrace your enthusiastic (and silly!) side and do something fun!
Keep Smiling :)
