Ever have one of those days? The ones that turn out nothing like you expect?
Today definitely falls into that category for us. Earlier this morning I was cleaning up the drawers under our bed, when I noticed our clothes felt a little damp and had a musty smell. I complained enough that Jay pulled the drawers out.
This is when the fun started! The bottom of the four drawers that go under our Ikea bed frame (pictured here) had started to mold. We live in the basement, and have a dehumidifier to help keep the dampness out but in the last couple of weeks it has started to malfunction.
Needless to say, moldy bed drawers do not make for the laziest of Sundays. We made quick work of cleaning everything up, and ensuring it was contained to the one spot, which luckily it was. The dehumidifier has been replaced and already things are looking and smelling much better.
While outside cleaning up the drawers, we did get the opportunity to talk to one of our friendly neighbours which was nice. We've chatted with him quite a few times in the past and it is always nice to see a familiar face.
As you can see below our bedroom, though cleaned up is still a mess so we've relegated ourselves to the spare room for the night. That meant double the cleaning because the space was serving as a dumping ground for all our belongings that didn't have an obvious home.
An overview of the chaos, no room for sleeping tonight! |
We've learned a valuable life lesson today. Always run a dehumidifier if you live in the basement, and occasionally check your bed drawers for nasty growths! Not the happiest life lesson I've ever learned but it could have been worse.
While we were cleaning we (ok, I) rocked out to my Atticus 3 Dragging the Lake CD that I bought in high school. It's a compilation CD filled with all kinds of angst ridden punk rock. I love it. Jay was surprised to find that at one point we had such similar tastes in music. I still have a soft spot in my heart for a little Blink 182, Sum 41 and Billy Talent. On the Atticus CD, my favorite songs are When Grey Skies Turn Blue by MxPx and 1000 Paper Cranes by Motion City Soundtrack.
On a more joyful note I am in a sharing mood today, so I also wanted to share some of my treasures with you.
Bobble Head Obama, a treasure from Jay's trip to DC earlier this year. It's awesome
Two lovely and new cross-body bags I bought this weekend as my big purse is too heavy in the heat. It's hard to tell from the picture but the reddish one is actually more of an angry salmon colour. It's gorgeous.
The Thought A Day Journal was a birthday present and something I had been craving for a while. It has space to write about four lines, everyday for five years. I love writing and reflecting so it is perfect for capturing snippets of life, and small enough to help manage the clutter!
Three Cups of Tea, I haven't actually started reading yet but I got it from the library yesterday and I am really excited to read it. I've been intrigued for a few years but just never got around to reading it yet. After all the Fifty Shades nonsense, I'm excited to read something with some depth again!
Oh, and I threw my flowery sunglasses in there just because I love them!
Hopefully you had a much more relaxing Sunday!
Keep Smiling :)
