There Is A Reason Why I Love This Town

Yes, that is a Joel Plaskett song reference masquerading as a title tonight. This is also not a blog about Halifax as the song may suggest.

I had my doubts that this day would come, but I am having a love affair with Ottawa. Fret not Nova Scotian friends, I still plan to return to my homeland when the opportunity presents itself. But in the meantime, I have to say this city is growing on me.

In the past two months I've had a change of heart,  I am really happy here in Ottawa. I am truly happy here, something I wasn't sure would happen during the long winter months. The only thing I'd change is the heat & humidity, I still haven't quite acclimatized to it and it molded our bedframe.

I am obsessed with Parliament Hill, the beauty not the politics. I love that I can see it whenever I please and do yoga or picnic on the grass if the mood suits. We're into our 11th month here (wow!) and I still get so excited when I see it, even from a distance.

Another thing I love about this city, is the museums. Living in Canada's capital city means we have access to all of the National Museums. The War Museum, Civilization Museum, Nature Museum, Agriculture Museum... and those are just the ones we've been to already. There is also the Diefenbunker, Science & Technology Museums, Currency Museums, Canadian Mint, etc. I love a good trip to the museum, so this is a fantastic place to be.

Nature here is also very exotic compared to what I saw in NS, though I know most of these creatures exist in Nova Scotia as well.

Since moving to Ontario I've seen fire flies for the first time, they are fascinating. I've also seen more bizarre bugs then I would have ever guessed existed in Canada. Seriously.

Last week on a walk, just a few minutes from home we saw a little gopher hanging out in his hole. We watched him for like twenty minutes, he was adorable! I don't remember ever seeing one in nature before so I was mesmerized.

Here are a few pictures from one of our many walks along the river parkway (another part of Ottawa I love!) I've appointed Jay my blog photographer so from here on out all quality pictures can be credited to him!

Keep Smiling :)

  1. We have those groundhogs / gophers digging holes in the backyard. LOL. Love the sunglasses. I'm glad you are enjoying life in Ottawa.

    1. I figured that's what the holes were, but had no proof as I've never seen the adorable little critters scurrying around.

  2. I am happy you are loving Ottawa! I've been a few times, since my sister lived there while she went to law school. I love the city too, for a lot of the reasons you mention. But I would also love to see Nova Scotia! I haven't actually seen to much of Canada outside of Ontario. Also, if you haven't done so, you need to have a beavertail in Ottawa!

    1. I haven't had a beavertail in forever, I'll definitely go get one soon! Nova Scotia is beautiful (though I'm a little biased) but if you ever get the chance you should go for sure!
