News From Our Week

Happy Sunday! Hopefully this past week has been as full of sunshine and happiness for you as it has for us.

This was my first week of work since the middle of July. I thought the adjustment would be rough but the girls I babysit are fantastic so it was actually really great. We did some awesome crafts this week, check out the pictures below. Now I just need to come up with a few more to fill the next few days!

We are trying to eat healthier and cut out sugary snacks. I found this recipe for Baked Oatmeal Muffins and decided to give it a try. They were easy to make and turned out great! We've been eating them for breakfast and snacks throughout the day! I didn't think baked oatmeal would be something I liked but they are delicious!

In our quest to eat healthier, and find healthy new options we also invested in a George Foreman Grill last week. They were on sale for $17 at Wal-Mart so we couldn't pass it up. We made some amazing steak and pork chops on it last week. It is awesome to finally have an alternative to baking or frying since we can't have a bbq.

Saturday we went on another road trip to Kingston. We love it there, I find it reminds me so much of Halifax. We took the free ferry to Wolfe Island, but it turns out there isn't much to do within walking distance of the ferry or if there is we couldn't find it. It was a beautiful day though so we were able to enjoy the sunshine at least!

Then we went to the mall to check out the H&M since somehow Ottawa doesn't have one. It's really worth the two hour drive just for H&M. After the mall we walked the waterfront, and enjoyed a yummy dinner at one of the local pubs.

It's another sunny and hot day here in Ottawa, so we headed to the mall again. We seem to be spending a lot of time at the mall, which isn't really good for the bank account. The heat outside makes most outdoor activities unpleasant so it has become our default weekend activity. We're planning to start hiking again in the fall, we definitely need to spend more time outdoors!

For a while I was sharing book reviews, or at least an update on what books I was reading but lately I've been seriously lacking the motivation to read anything! The library seems to be emailing me daily with reminders I have books to pick up, but I just can't seem to get excited about reading at the moment. If you have any suggestions for books I'd love to hear them!

All in all things are great here in Ottawa. It's nice to have some structure back in our lives with both of us working (although I've only got one more week to go and then I go back to living the student life, eek!) Jay has a few more weeks of frisbee left, and my Girl Guide Leader orientation starts this week. I think this fall is going to be a busy one for us!

This week is also the one year anniversary of this blog and our move to Ottawa. Crazy. It's been a challenging year for both of us but the past few months have been really great. Sure we'd rather be back in Halifax, but there are plenty of perks to living in a new city. I do want to give a shout out to everyone back home though, I love you all and am so grateful for your support over this past year. You are welcome to visit us anytime!

That's all the news for this week, thanks for checking out today's blog! Have an fantastic week and make the most of your labour day long weekend! Until next week...

Keep Smiling :)

  3. I am in love with the turtle arts project...so cute! Glad you had a fun weekend. Gotta say, I'm a little jealous since mine consisted of tons of laundry and only going to to grab some pizza.
